The Area:
  |
The Costa Blanca is so called because of its remarkably luminous skies and the long, white sandy beaches which extend over most of its coastline. It is also reputed to enjoy the healthiest climate in Europe with lots of sunshine, mild temperatures and low humidity.
Torrevieja, probably the most select area of the Costa Blanca, is an interesting town situated between two salt lakes and bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. All around the evolution of progress is visible, although many of the towns traditions and customs resist the test of time. Places like the church, the casino and the harbour remain much the same as when they were built at the turn of the century.
The salt lakes that surround Torrevieja produce a special microclimate that is one of a kind in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula, as it allows for a stable agreeable temperature all year round so you are guaranteed mild Winters and bearable Summers.

The Beaches:

The many beaches of these coastal towns implies that whatever the weather, you can always find privacy on one of their sandy shores. In Torrevieja, La Playa del Cura and Playa de los Locos are the most frequented by the locals in the Summer months, whilst the lengthy La Mata beach is probably the towns best beach because of the care taken in it's conservation and the environment that surrounds it. The new boardwalk along this beautiful beach and it's protected sand dunes with the typical
Mediterranean pines, make for an excellent day at the beach. Other beaches in Torrevieja are: El Acequión, Las Rocas and La Playa Ferris. Also to be mentioned are of Las Calas, where the rocky coast makes for very private places to sunbathe. Guardamar has one main beach which is long as it is beautiful, with large sand banks, so you the shallows go a long way into the sea.
Orihuela is slightly different, since the main town is not near the sea but it has many magnificent beaches within it's municipality. La Zenia, Mil Palmeras, La Mosca, Campoamor, Cabo Roig...etc, all these beaches are carefully looked after by the Orihuela Town Hall and all have complete services so you won't have to worry about the safety and cleanliness of these excellent shores. In the area of Campoamor, you also have the local marina with it's small sail boats and luxury yachts.
Santa Pola and Elche enjoy beaches much more in harmony with nature, as most of them are protected by law so as no buildings are allowed within 200m from the sea. This makes their beaches some of the least populated on the Costa Blanca, protected by delicate natural sand dunes and wild reeds and pinetrees.
